UTF or Under the Freeway was a very difficult skatepark in Spokane WA, it lasted from the 90’s through the early 00’s. I’m not sure who designed it, but I’m fairly certain that whoever did, did not skate. Needless to say the park still fueled innovation, and adaptability. I’m just saying if it had been a soccer field or a baseball diamond that was deemed unusable, it wouldn’t get used, but this was a skatepark- and skate kids are creative. At times there were additions, flat rails, boxes, jersey barriers, quarter pipes and even a full pipe from time to time would show up in the space. Like most skate spots, it was more than a place to skate, it was an ever changing canvas, a hub of culture, a place fostered by caring souls who loved skating and the community. -Thanks Spirit Steve.
